Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft. And one out of every ten children born with a cleft will die before their first birthday. The children who survive are often unable to eat, speak, socialize, or smile—in many places they are shunned and rejected. But a surgery that takes as few as 45 minutes can change those children’s lives forever. A surgery that, sadly, many of those children’s parents cannot afford.
We believe that every child deserves access to the safe, quality surgical care they need. Because every child deserves a future filled with hope. Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles, forever changing their lives.
We’re the largest volunteer-based medical charity providing free cleft surgeries. Since 1982, Operation Smile, with the help of dedicated medical volunteers, has provided more than 3.5 million comprehensive patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with facial deformities in over 60 countries around the world. We also train local doctors in developing countries and strengthen healthcare systems so more children in some of the world’s poorest areas can be treated, creating lasting global impact.
You can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. For every photo donated on behalf of Operation Smile, Johnson & Johnson Services, Inc. has donated $1 to that cause. Photo donations on behalf of Operation Smile ended when it reached its goal of $24,000.
